Tas: Clean-up after fuel tanker rolls

HOBART, Dec 30 AAP - A major clean-up was underway near Hobart today after a 30,000-litre
fuel tanker rolled on the Tasman Highway, spilling much of its load.

Police said the tanker rolled on a sweeping bend about 7am (AEDT) today, trapping the
driver inside.

The driver was pulled from the wreckage by firefighters before being taken to hospital
with head injuries.

"They had to pull him from the wreckage as petrol was gushing around everywhere, so
it was a bit frightening," a police spokesman said.

He said the clean-up was expected to continue into the afternoon, blocking the highway
in both directions.

"They've pumped up fuel that ran down a drain and into a creek, but they still need
to take out what is left in the tanker and take it away," the spokesman said.
