FED: Warning of job losses if GST goes ahead

SYDNEY, Feb 4 AAP - Almost 60,000 jobs would be lost nationally and millions of workers
worse off under the federal government's proposed GST, a public hearing heard today.

A national tourism lobby group warned a senate committee hearing on the GST that 59,500
jobs would be lost as a result of reduced spending by inbound and domestic tourists.

And the ACTU told the hearing about 2.5 million workers earning $40,000 a year or less
